Cancun has always been a very popular tourist destination in Mexico with Tulum on the rise for hipsters and millennials. While touring Mexico, I wanted to get a true feel for the culture at a much slower pace. I decided to venture out to Coba, an hour drive from Tulum.

Coba, an ancient Mayan city in the Yucatan Peninsula, is known for its extensive farmland, trade routes and its water supply. It is also drop dead gorgeous!

I am very excited to be in Coba! I am even more excited about staying at Coqui Coqui, a hotel which I have been eyeing on Instagram for years.Aside from Coqui Coqui being a boutique hotel, it is a perfumeria nestled in the Yucatan.

Ok, so before you guys read any further let’s talk about the hotel name Coqui Coqui. Coqui means “frog” in Spanish. At night the hotel opens up all the windows and doors in the lobby and the frogs come in. I know it may scare some people but it’s a natural way to reduce the insect population keeping the mosquitos away. They frogs are harmless and they don’t bother you.

THEY ARE NOT IN THE ROOMS SO DO NOT FRET.

This is my room.I booked my room on MrAndMrsSmith.com. They showcase the best hotels from all over the world. As a bonus I was granted a $60 spa credit for booking my room through their site.I had the most amazing facial!

My room, the king room is very spacious!Although not pictured, it has a walk in closet and a giant marble tub. The toilet is separate from the bathing area which I like. I never really understood why tubs and toilets are in the same area.

I am treating myself to a fish pedicure. The fish pedicure doesn’t hurt—just tickles slightly. I love this natural process. This never gets old and is only $5.

1) Wear sneakers not flats.

3) Bring cash.

The park only accepts cash. You will also like to have some cash handy for snacks and to rent a bike, be chauffeured on a bike cab or buy snacks.

Trust me, you will 9/10 want to be chauffeured because it is a long walk to the ruins once you are inside the park and it is extremely hot.

4) Arrive early to beat the crowd. The ruins close at 5.

I’m feel enriched with so much history amongst these ruins. Aside from all the history here, Nipsey Hussle shot part of his video “Victory Lab”. (Photo above)

Coba was a great experience. It was nice to get away and become one with nature.

Although it was beautiful I would only suggest stay in Coba for two nights max. There isn’t much to do besides seeing the ruins and enjoying the cenotes.

There is no nightlife.

All of the restaurants close early and honestly there are not that many to choose from. Tulum is the closest area from Coba that has nightlife and a ton of dining options however it is an hour away and the cab ride can be pricey.

Mygrate with me to the next city!! ✈️ Playa Del Carmen.

Also check out my story on my IG page (Mygrate_With_Myra) for the live Coba story.
